Alife Model of Evolutionary Emergence of Purposeful Adaptive Behavior
نویسندگان
چکیده
The process of evolutionary emergence of purposeful adaptive behavior is investigated by means of computer simulations. The model proposed implies that there is an evolving population of simple agents, which have two natural needs: energy and reproduction. Any need is characterized quantitatively by a corresponding motivation. Motivations determine goaldirected behavior of agents. The model demonstrates that purposeful behavior does emerge in the simulated evolutionary processes. Emergence of purposefulness is accompanied by origin of a simple hierarchy in the control system of agents.

Towards a Framework for Observing Artificial Evolutionary Systems
Establishing the emergence of evolutionary behavior as a defining characteristic of ‘life’ is a major step in the Artificial life (ALife) studies. We present here an abstract formal framework for this aim based upon the notion of high-level observations made on the ALife model at hand during its simulations. An observation process is defined as a computable transformation from the underlying dy...
متن کاملThe Natural Way to Artificial Intelligence
The chapter argues that the investigations of evolutionary processes that result in human intelligence by means of mathematical/computer models can be a serious scientific basis of AI research. The “intelligent inventions” of biological evolution (unconditional reflex, habituation, conditional reflex, . . . ) to be modeled, conceptual background theories (the metasystem transition theory by V.F...
متن کاملA Dynamic Analysis of Market Efficiency on Benchmark Crude oil markets: Based on the Adaptive Market Hypothesis
This paper examines the applicability of the adaptive market hypothesis (AMH) as an evolutionary alternative to the efficient market hypothesis (EMH) by studying daily returns on the three benchmark crude oils. The data coverage of daily returns is from January 2th 2003 to March 5th 2018. In this paper, two different tests in the form of two distinguished classes (linear and nonlinear) have bee...
متن کاملLearning drives the accumulation of adaptive complexity in simulated evolution
Developmental plasticity and particularly learning enable organisms to cope with new environmental challenges. But if learning is costly, the same behavior could evolve through Darwinian modifications of development that substitute for the role of learning in the acquisition of that behavior, a hypothesis known as the Baldwin effect. Computer simulations have confirmed that learning accelerates...
متن کاملAdaptive Self-Organizing Organisms Using A Bio- Inspired Gene Regulatory Network Controller: For the Aggregation of Evolutionary Robots under a Changing Environment
This work has explored the adaptive potential of simulated swarm robots that contain a genomic encoding of a bio-inspired gene regulatory network (GRN). An artificial genome is combined with a flexible agent-based system, representing the activated part of the regulatory network that transduces environmental cues into phenotypic behavior. Using an Alife simulation framework that mimics a changi...
